Magma from Troika international Print E-mail
Magma software for seismic data transcription.

Magma has been developed to provide a highly efficient range of data manipulation modules, flexible enough to handle all types of exploration data as well as transcribing seismic data.

The system also provides a conduit for the fast transfer of information to and from High Capacity Media, hard disk and across networks. Data may also be read from URL’s over the Internet, Intranet or Extranet. Magma has been thoroughly tested and can work at near to the theoretical maximum of the very latest tape, cartridge and disk technology.

Client chooses required modules.

Magma has been written in C++ object orientated code. This provides the perfect method to separate the functionality and allow the client to choose which modules are required, thereby reducing costs. This may include the addition of specific company defined formats, connection to client database systems and transfer of data via network to client’s existing application hardware, software and databases.

The modular structure allows support for proprietary formats to be added easily as required, and Troika possess a comprehensive format library to facilitate this. Support for 21-track is also available as an option.

 Operator Interface

Magma can be driven either in text mode or a GUI (Graphical User Interface).

The GUI interface, to the batch processing facilities, provides the user with a logical and simplified method of operation and contains multiple error checking when parameters are being entered by the user.

Tcl provides the basis of the format-neutral utilities. The C++ code uses a embedded Tcl interpreter allowing the scripting of complex tasks. There is also a GUI interface for common tasks.

Connectivity

The system can be interfaced to any standard SCSI devices via an Adaptec controller including; 9-track, 3480, 3490, 3490E, 3590, Exabyte 8200, 8500, 8505, 8700, DLT, DAT, CD etc.
Multiple drives may also be attached and run as separate job streams to increase throughput. Support for the older styles of tape drives are also available depending on the type of drive.

 Plotting and Listing

The plotting of seismic traces, either from selected records (shots) or a trace from each record (near trace gather) can be output to a TIFF graphics file, displayed on-screen or output to a printing or plotting device.
The plot module can be called more than once in a parameter file and consequently multiple plots can be generated within one job for true quality control of the data. The plot files can be output to TIFF format and archived with the data to be retained and display the data at any time in the future.
Any seismic data including multiplexed and demultiplexed field data may also be plotted by taking the copy of the information prior to it being passed through the reformatting modules for high level QC and plotting of bit to bit copy.

A number of lists are created whilst transcription is being carried out, these may be used for quality assurance purposes, saving to disk, printout etc. These lists include details of the data that has been read from and written to tape providing a machine-readable listing for import to a database, spread sheet for labelling or documentation such as transmittals.

Purchase and Licensing

Magma is written in a modular form so that individual or groups of modules may be purchased. There is also the opportunity to purchase a pay as you go license to spread cost or run a project and pay either per tape or monthly.
